Slangs in North America! (modified ver.)

slightly modified slang/SNS quiz made by janeenmp

Disclaimer: I did not make this activity!
This is a slightly modified version of janeenmp's Slang Quiz: American/Internet/SNS Version
Original Version here:

I found janeenmp's slang quiz and loved it! But my third years are still struggling with English and I was only given 30 minutes for this activity, so I modified the slangs and SNS words just a bit!

This is how I played it:
Students are in groups of 4-6 and I gave them 20 seconds to choose a team name.
I then explain the rules.
I will read the questions and answers out lout, once I'm finished, they will have 10 seconds to answer.
If they get it right, they get 5 points. If they get it wrong, they lose 1 point.
Bonus round: they will have 5 minutes to guess as many as possible.
They get 2 points if they guess one correctly, and no penalty if they get it wrong. This encourages them to guess.

Slang words:
1. whip
2. touch grass
3. the ick
4.cringe
5. yeet
I used DeepL to translate some of the Japanese explanations so they might not be 100% correct, please feel free to let me know in the comments!

SNS words
- OMG
- CU
- BC/cuz
- IDK
- OFC
- BTW
- THX
- B4
- BFF
- PLS

If the students are really struggling I usually point to CU or B4 and tell them to read it out loud, it's pretty funny when they realize it LOL
