- The class will make 5-6 groups (I’m assuming that they already have their own groups).
- Play rock, scissors, paper and choose the student order.
- Ask student 3 to get a whiteboard and a marker.
- Show your prepared characters to make them excited.
- All student 1 play rock, scissors, paper and they can choose characters in order.
- Show the screen and practice saying the shapes and money. Also practice how they should choose category and number. For example, “triangle, 300 yen” (Please change the currency if you want to)
- Do practice time with them. I find it easier to explain and do it at the same time.
- JTE will ask an easy question that they already learned (What’s your name? Who’s your P.E. teacher? etc.)
- The fastest team /student who can raise their card can answer the JTE’s question.
- If it’s correct, they can choose a category. If it’s wrong, other teams can steal (raise their cards and answer the JTE’s question)
- They will choose a category and write their answers in 30 seconds. Let the other teams think about the answers, too. (If the group can’t answer, give the other teams 30seconds to write on their whiteboard and if they have finished writing, they can raise their character card.)
- Let the students read their answers and give the corresponding point.
- Let the students repeat the past tense and the sentence.
I did this with my Christmas Jeopardy and I decided to add ‘Showtime’ points in this activity, too.
Please add your own dance videos or whatever you can think of.

Hi. Nice work! What's the deal with the 'Showtime' slides?
What do you mean? Do the videos work? If not, you can put in your own videos/screen records.
Maybe, how does showtime slides work? I was introduced to the idea of them by a co-worker in Nagaoka. I think he came up with the idea and I’ve got them in the Super Mario Review Quiz and now my Year End Point game. I find showtime slides really add a lot of excitement to those Race and Speak Grid games. Really steal the show.
This is the description from my Year End Point Game
‘ Showtime is a special case. In this case rather than answer a question the student comes up and does a gesture. This is generally good fun but if a student is really shy then they can come up with a friend.’
Hi. Showtime is just there to make it more fun. I chose dance videos that are child friendly of course. I usually look for videos that are famous on Tiktok. Yes, if students are shy, I let them either call a friend/group or just skip it if it takes a lot of time. I like playing Jeopardy for reviews, but some JTEs ask just for unit review.
