Simple Present

I study English.

Japanese name: 一般動詞 (ippan doushi)

I play tennis every week.
I don’t have a pen.
Do you like giraffes?

This is the most simple and basic kind of English sentence. It establishes that English primarily uses Subject-Verb-Object word order. In the context of this site, it applies to sentences that don’t have any of the grammar that students learn later like the plural form of the verb (plays, doesn’t like) or auxiliary verbs like “can.”

The verb “be” has its own tag since it’s often one of the first sentence patterns taught in English classes.
