The activity doesn't require any preparation or materials from the teacher. Just remember it and go!

  • Stereo Game/ Shotoku Taishi

    Group of kids speak/yell their target vocabulary while the rest of the class listens to them. The rest of the class must individually pick out who said what.

  • Daytona

    Students race to see how fast they can introduce themselves to each other.

  • Keyword Game

    Make the teachers say a keyword or phrase to get some points.

  • Janken, Change, Retire

    Students work in pairs to answer two questions in order for their pair to retire from the game.

  • Eraser Get

    This is a quick and easy vocab review 'game' for 1st grade past tense verbs. Ideal for a quick review before doing a writing exercise.

  • Yamanote Line

    Students pound on their desks and while practicing various English target vocabulary.

  • Body Discovery

    A row race where students attempt to fill in as many body parts on a stick figure, within five minutes, as possible.

  • Thumb War

    Students practice numbers 1-10 or 10-100 using Thumb War.

  • Alphabet Telephone

    A variation on Telephone to practice writing the alphabet.

  • Ping Pong Pang

    Students play an adapted version of the popular drinking game (a point that should NOT be made in class).

  • Pick a Side

    Students move to the left or right side of the classroom depending on what they can or cannot do.

  • Monkey Time

    Teaches the hours (eg. one o'clock, two o'clock, etc.) and review numbers.

  • Birthday Present Memory Game

  • May I sit down? - A Liar's Game

    A game that focuses on heavy repetition of May I and answers. Students work to find the liar amongst the opposing team.

  • What Time Is It, Mr Wolf?

    This game is exactly like the 'Red light, green light' game. Students practice asking the time and listening to the ALT count while trying to make it across the room.

  • Next Number?

    After saying their own number, students decide on, and call out the next number.

  • Criss Cross

    Students race to answer questions in hopes of sitting down before their friends.

  • Jump

    The ALT says a number and the students must jump that many times.

  • Did The ALT...?

    Students ask the ALT questions using 'did' questions: "Did you eat breakfast yesterday?" Points are recieved for 'yes' responses.

  • You Have

    Get students predicting and practicing "you have" in this rhythmical one-on-one game.

  • Huggies

    Students form numbered groups based upon the number they are given.

  • Bomber Man

    Students answer questions to force their classmates to sit down or stand up.

  • Mister Wolf

    Practice feelings with a red light green light styled game

  • Land Of The Blind

    Students work in pair teams; one blindfolded while the other issues commands to move around the room and avoid getting caught by the Oni (Devil) team.

  • Ready For Speech

    Make public speaking and introductions fun.

  • Guess The Number

    Students have to try to guess a number from within a set range. The less guesses, the more the points.

  • Fast Touch

    Students race to be the fastest to touch the body part explained by the ALT.

  • I Spy

    Children play a simplified version of "I Spy" while reviewing colours.

  • A-E-I-O-U Bingo Song

    While singing along to the Bingo song, students sing the English vowels and practice giving their self-introductions.

  • Eto

    Students race to recall alphabet letters randomly written on the chalkboard.

  • Body Alphabet

    Students form letters of the alphabet using their bodies.

  • Pen Collection

    This is a simple game that practices 'whose' and borrowing the students' pens.

  • Scrabble Time Bomb

    A timer is started and students race to write words on the chalkboard and not to be the student holding the chalk when the timer sounds.

  • The Sleeping Game

    Students work together to put sentences in the right order.

  • Behind My Back

    With their back to the class, students try to guess who is speaking.

  • That's My Bag

    The ALT and JTE "steal" items from the students' desks and the students must claim them using demonstrative pronouns.

    A quiz using comparatives. Warm up activity.

  • Whose classroom item is this?

    Students practice "whose" by mixing up their classroom possessions and trying to find the original owner.
